Coffee News at Our East Store

ImageWe’re very proud of the coffee selections we offer to you coffee drinkers out there.  Have you tried them all?  Have you seen the shiny, new bulk coffee display?  You don’t know what a good time is until you’ve deconstructed and installed a coffee display at midnight with Pete, Mac, Nicki, Earnie & Meg!

Our local coffees come from these fine folks:

Bloomington Coffee Roasters : Bloomington Coffee Roasters is a small batch roaster located right here in Bloomington. “We are a young company that is part of a new generation of roasters who are striving to make a positive difference in the coffee industry.”  100% Fair Trade, 100% Organic, 100% Delicious!

Brown County Coffee:   A specialty coffee micro-roaster located near Nashville, Indiana.  These coffees are sold in bulk, here at the East store, are organic, fair trade certified, sustainably sourced and delicious!

Partridge & Quigley:
Located right here in Bloomington, offering fairly traded coffees including organics, blends, and flavored coffees. “We roast daily, in small batches, to insure optimal freshness… The peak potential of our coffees is achieved with a
dark, west coast roast. This method enhances the subtle nuance of the beans, providing you with a rich flavorful cup of coffee.”

Jameson Coffee: A family owned and operated roaster located in Greecastle, IN.  “At Jameson Coffee we utilize the traditional old world method of roasting by means of a small batch drum roaster.  Our roast level for most of our coffees at Jameson Coffee is a mix between a ‘City Roast’ and ‘Full City Roast’. Our goal in roasting is to achieve what we call the ‘Sweet Spot’ in the bean.

Other (not quite so local) roasters:

Equal Exchange:   Our relationship with Equal Exchange has evolved into a fruitful partnership with Bloomingfoods growing to become the retailer with the largest selection of Equal Exchange coffee in the world!  Equal Exchange, in turn, custom-made our new bulk coffee cabinet and provided it to us at no cost!  Now that’s working together!
“Our founders envisioned a food system that empowers farmers and consumers, supports small farmer co-ops, and uses sustainable farming methods. They started with fairly traded coffee from Nicaragua and didn't look back. Today, we continue to find new and powerful ways to build a better food system. We partner with co-operatives of farmers who provide high-quality organic coffees, teas, chocolates and snacks from farmers all over the world, including here in the United States.”
October is “Fair Trade” month at the co-op and many Equal Exchange items are on sale, including chocolate bars, coffee and tea.

Organic Coffee Co.:   Sold in our Bulk Coffee section and member of the Roger’s Family Brands company, “we offer a rich assortment of competitively priced, organic coffee beans and fair trade organic coffee beans ... As with all Rogers Family Company coffees, our coffee tastes so good because we go directly to the source to buy our coffee from premier organic farms, we grow our own organic coffee on unique and bio-diverse farms in Panama, and we've perfected the art of coffee roasting during our 25 years in the business.”

Peace Coffee: "At Peace Coffee, we trade fairly with small, organic coffee grower cooperatives in Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, Nicaragua, Ethiopia and Sumatra. We are also a founding member of Cooperative Coffees. This is a green coffee importing cooperative committed to supporting and partnering with small-scale coffee farmers and their exporting cooperatives….” Peace Coffee is a small co-op; includes a staff of twelve producing fifteen coffee varieties. “We roast, pack and distribute our coffee beans all under one eco-friendly roof in Minneapolis. In the Twin Cities metro, Peace Coffee still delivers by bike year-round and our suburban accounts get their coffee from a big, bright biodiesel van. What remains unchanged is our complete devotion to the idea of a fairly traded, farmer-friendly product and the wonders of a great cup of coffee.”

Pachamama Coffee: Pachamama is a company owned by more than 150,000 coffee farmers around the world. “Pachamama's member-owners ship their finest, organic single-origin coffee to the USA from Ethiopia, Guatemala, Peru, Nicaragua and Mexico. We hand-roast in small batches in California and ship direct to customers. Our mission is to provide customers with premium coffee in the most direct manner possible and, in doing so, improve the lives of small-scale farmers and their families.”
