There's a lot of good news to report this month from the East store meat department.
New Certified Organic Chicken from Miller Amish Farms!
Organic Boneless/Skinless Chicken Breast - $8.79/lb
Organic Bone-in/Skin-on Chicken Thighs – $4.19/lb (Great Price)
New items from This Old Farm. This Old Farm was first started in 2000 to bring good, clean food to Northern Indiana families from Erick and Jessica Smith’s 88 acre farm in Colfax, IN. They continue to do that today. In an effort to make good food more accessible, they have now expanded to process locally raised meats and to represent 20 different farms through a farm alliance so that they can bring clean, local food to not only their traditional retail families but to commercial markets as well. This means Bloomingfoods!
100% Grass-fed Goat, 100% Grass-fed Lamb, and Pastured Beef.
Look for it in the Frozen Meat Locker next to the fresh meat case!
New seafood supplier at the East Side. Supreme Lobster has a plethora of items to satisfy your craving for fresh, frozen, quality, and most importantly sustainable seafood. Look for new items in the fresh meat case.
If you haven’t already reserved your Thankgiving turkey, don’t worry. We will have extras of every size and kind to make your Thanksgiving dinner one to remember. Come in starting Sunday the 18th to get yours. I promise you’ll taste the difference.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving

Our Fall Truckload sale takes place this weekend in the parking lot at Bloomingfoods East. There are some terrific products in the tent!
Doors open today, October 13, from 9am, to 6pm. Sunday hours are 10am to 5pm.
Here's just some of what you will find:
Big beautiful pumpkins for $2.50.
Leeks for 69¢ each. Jerome says this might be the best bargain in the tent, but he is also selling other delicious organic produce: seedless red grapes, onions, fresh cranberries, carrots, Granny Smith and Gala apples, potatoes, avocados, romaine hearts, and pomegranates. Organic croutons for those Caesar salads.
Spring may seem a long time away, but our seed suppliers need to have our orders within the next few weeks, so that the East Bloomingfoods Garden Center can have bulk and packet seed on the shelves in January—before the big box stores get theirs and the mail order catalogs arrive.
No sense buying from them when you could get all you need at your member-owned co-op! So if there are varieties of vegetable or flower seeds, tools, or equipment you didn’t find at the Garden Center this past season, please let us know as soon as possible so we can help supply all your garden needs right here next spring.
You know the advice: Wag More, Bark Less! It's a good time for it—October is National Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month, and the Monroe County Humane Association holds its annual Run for the Animals on Saturday, October 14.
Mister Buck’s is offering 10% off their complete line of dog food and cat food all month, in addition to their continued donation of $1 per bag to our local animal shelter. For those unfamiliar with Mister Buck’s, they are a local company producing excellent dry and canned food for both dogs and cats. We are pleased to offer their complete line at the East store, with a selection at the Near West Side, too.
EAST GROCERY NEWS — Non-GMO Project, and a Recipe for Quinoa Pancakes
This summer several of us went to food shows and workshops presented by distributors and professionals in the Natural Foods Industry. One of the topics covered at the workshops was the Non-GMO Verified Project.
There is a LOT of buzz out there on this topic and it’s exciting to watch things happen. I find myself committed to providing our customers and members with good information so that you are better prepared to make wise food choices.
