EAST GROCERY NEWS — Non-GMO Project, and a Recipe for Quinoa Pancakes

This summer several of us went to food shows and workshops presented by distributors and professionals in the Natural Foods Industry. One of the topics covered at the workshops was the Non-GMO Verified Project.

There is a LOT of buzz out there on this topic and it’s exciting to watch things happen. I find myself committed to providing our customers and members with good information so that you are better prepared to make wise food choices.

2012 BCS Board Election Goes Online

As a member-owner of the co-op you have the right to vote for your Board of Directors (The Second Cooperative Principle: Democratic Member Control), as well as vote on bylaw recommendations made by the Board. Last year the membership approved a bylaw amendment that made voting for the Board of Directors by electronic means possible. This amendment passed with a vote of 82.5% in favor.

One way that Bloomingfoods addresses the issue of local community food security is to participate in Plant a Row for the Hungry, contributing produce from our stores to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank. You can be a participant in this program, too!

The Earth Machine, a self-contained backyard home composter, is in stock and on sale at the East Bloomingfoods Garden Center. Some folks have been on a waiting list for these efficient composters.
