The East store deli department is currently reviewing its baking recipes, and is giving particular scrutiny to the oils it uses. For many years, canola has been our primary choice. As one resource explains: "One of the healthiest for your heart and most versatile cooking oil in use today, Canola oil is used widely by both home cooks and professional chefs alike. It's light, clear and has a mild taste, which makes it ideal for cooking, fondues, stir-frying, salads and marinades. And, yes, even baking!" However, we are aware that "Safflower oil is also one of the best healthy cooking oils for baking, as the gentle, understated taste of safflower oil lets your other ingredients shine through." If you have strong feelings regarding which we choose, we'd love to here from you. Please email the deli with your opinion.
Thanks, Kai Bookwalter Deli Manager |

New Local Products, New Create-Your-Own-Six-Pack Program, and More Great Deals in Beer and Wine
There have been many changes happening in the beer and wine department at the eastside Bloomingfoods location. We have expanded the number of craft beer six-packs that we carry, adding several new beers from breweries right here in Indiana. Look for our Indiana Craft Sampler twelve packs of seasonal selections, priced at $17.99, from craft breweries around Indiana such as Oaken Barrel Brewing Company, located in Noblesville, and Three Floyds Brewing Company, out of Munster. Also new to our shelves are two beers from Bee Creek Brewery in Brazil, Indiana. Try the excellent Honey Wheat, made with Martinsville honey for $9.99, or the refreshingly simple Bee Creek Ale for $8.99. Or, if you simply can’t decide which beer to bring home, try some of each with our brand new Design-Your-Own-Six-Pack deal for just $9.99. Choose from a variety of craft beers and imports, and feel free to request beers you would like to see added to the shelf. We haven’t forgotten about you wine lovers. New to our shelves is the Terra Andina line, a vineyard out of Chile that takes a modern approach to wine making by selecting and combining grapes from different regions around the country to create balanced, fruit forward wines. Try their varietals: an excellent Merlot, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, and a smooth Chardonnay, all for $8.99. Or try the reserves: a spicy Carmenere, and a deliciously fruity Pinot Nior, both for $11.99. Still on special, marked down from $9.99 to $5.99, we have Navarrsotillo Noemus, a Spanish red made from a blend of organically grown Garnacha and Tempranillo. With a palette of clove and vanilla, this wine pairs nicely with red meats and pastas. And if you prefer whites we have Hedges C.M.S. from Colombia Valley in Washington State. Marked down from $15.99 to $9.99. this un-oaked blend of Chardonnay, Marsanne, and Sauvignon Blanc is mellow and smooth with the mineral notes of a Sauvignon Blanc. It makes a great accompaniment to shellfish and seafood dishes. And while you are browsing our wine selection make sure to visit our closeout wine shelf, located near the dairy case, for great deals on reds, whites, ports, and desert wines. |
