For the first time in over a decade, legislation has been introduced in the United States Senate calling for the labeling of all genetically engineered (GE) foods.

On Wednesday, April 24, 2013, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Congressman Peter De Fazio (D-OR) introduced the Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know Act, which would require the labeling of all GE foods at the federal level.
As a member-owned food co-op, we know that GE (GMO) labeling is important to our shoppers. The National Cooperative Grocers' Association, a business services cooperative for retail food co-ops to which we belong, has been a strong advocate for a labeling campaign.
Through NCGA, we communicate with our vendors about the importance of this issue to the member-owners and shoppers at our stores. Numerous opinion polls indicate that as many as 93% of all Americans think that genetically modified foods should be labeled.
