If you shop at Bloomingfoods or the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market, searching for certified organic vegetables or bedding plants, you have probably purchased something beautiful and alive from Lee and Dale Jones of Stranger's Hill Farm.
Stranger's Hill Greenhouse and Farm is located on Louden Road, just under 12 miles away from Bloomingfoods East. Each year the farm supplies our store with a variety of organic bedding plants for transplanting to area yards and gardens. Lee and Dale also sell mixed vegetables (including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, green beans, and winter squash), herbs (mostly basil), and small fruits. They offer tours of their farm by prior arrangement.
Lee and Dale were this year's winners of our 2007 Bill Krejci Cooperative Service Award, given at the annual meeting of the co-op. Bloomingfoods honored them for their long-standing contributions to our co-op community, their cheerful, gorgeous presence at the Farmers' Market, their promotion of sustainable farming practices, and their business success.
"It's such a pleasure doing business with Lee and Dale, who offer us outstanding organic products and plants, and who have done so much to advance awareness of sustainable gardening in our region," said Bloomingfoods General Manager George Huntington, presenting the Jones's with the Bill Krejci Award.
