New at Bloomingfoods East, from Australia’s oldest family-owned vineyard, is the Yalumba Vineyards Y Series. As a vineyard, Yalumba is dedicated to producing quality wines and committed to the preservation of Australia’s natural environment. The Y Series is a line of varietals including a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Shiraz-Viognier, and an un-wooded Chardonnay made from organically grown, sustainably farmed grapes.
In 2007 Yalumba was awarded the Green Apple International Award for Environmental Best Practice as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Protection Award. Yalumba also maintains a wildlife sanctuary with the goal of rehabilitating Australia’s native endangered species such as the Cape Barren Goose, whose image adorns The Y Series Chardonnay.
Yalumba Proprietor, Robert Hill Smith, sees high standards in environmental practice and a high quality product as being directly related. "We are convinced that our efforts in protecting our natural resource base have reflected in the quality of the wines we share with the world. Quite simply, excellence in winemaking required excellence in environmental management – the two are inseparable. Our wines now celebrate this fact."
