World Food Day and the No Kid Hungry Campaign

Today, October 16, 2012, is World Food Day. In recognition of the need to end hunger, food co-ops and their partners are supporting the national nonprofit Share Our Strength to support that organization's No Kid Hungry campaign.

The National Cooperative Grocers Association (NCGA), a business services cooperative for retail food co-ops, including Bloomingfoods, has pledged to raise at least $100,000 for No Kid Hungry campaign. This amount represents contributions from member co-ops, consumers and partner brands, including Alaffia, Alter Eco, Divine, Dr. Bronner's, Equal Exchange, Frontier, Nutiva, Once Again, Organic Valley and Shady Maple Farms.

One in five kids in America today struggle with hunger, meaning that more than 16 million children cannot count on having enough nutritious food. Through the No Kid Hungry campaign, Share our Strength invests in community organizations fighting hunger, teaches families how to cook healthy, affordable meals, and builds public-private partnerships to end childhood hunger, at both the state and city level. It also ensures that children in need are enrolled in federal nutrition programs.
